Peer support services - a job designed for living.
A Certified Peer Specialist works in the community, meeting in an individual's home or some agreed upon public location, with peers who have a significant mental health diagnosis such as major depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, or borderline personality disorder. The CPS helps these individuals to identify and work towards mental health goals. Peer support is not based on psychiatric models and diagnostic criteria. It is about understanding another person's situation and relating to them with empathy through the shared experience of psychological and emotional pain. Mutual empowerment is the key. All meeting between the CPS and peers are documented for insurance and billing purposes, so this position also requires attention to detail and excellent organizational and writing skills.
You must have:
Experience as a patient in a mental health program or individual treatment program.
Provide proof of high school graduation or GED.
Show a history of volunteer service or employment for at least a year in the past 3 years, or completed 24 hours of college/vocational training.
Stable mental health for at least a year.
Current PA driver's license and reliable transportation.
We offer part-time positions that can increase to full-time hours if interested.
Once you meet the requirements, you can start the training program.
